ASTAR’s friction washer is a highly efficient piece of washing equipment designed in Germany mainly for the purpose of cleaning Plastic Rigid flakes as well as plastic films. At the core of ASTAR’s friction washer is a long, fast-rotating shaft mounted with many tilted panels / paddles. Surrounding this rotating shaft is a mesh screen tunnel used for dewatering and filtering small contaminants. These are then encased within a large retangular casing where water jets and nozzles are directed at the mesh screen. The rotating shaft within ASTAR’s friction washer spins at nearly 1,000 rotations per minute, pieces of paper and cardboard are broken into small fibers and exit through the mesh screen. The remaining plastics are mixed at high speeds within the washer where friction between each plastic piece helps scrub off dirt and debris. Water is continuously added via water jets that spray at the mesh screen preventing potential clogging that may occur.
